Palmer Hall

***UPDATE 6/7/2025***

EHS has walked the project and is requesting additional containment at the entrances and additional requirements for access to the spaces under construction in conjunction with this project.

Construction zones on the 2nd floor that are actively being worked are off limits to 91Â鶹ӳ» Personnel without prior approval from EHS

Contractors will be onsite and working in these spaces please keep clear of these zones.

---------------------------------

As part of the ongoing HVAC Upgrade Project in Palmer Hall, American Mechanical Services will begin the next phase of work on Wednesday, May 29. Construction will continue throughout the summer months, and work in mechanical rooms and service areas will extend into the 2025–2026 academic year.

Scope of Work:

  • HVAC installation in department, faculty, and staff offices located in the basement and second floor—including adding air conditioning to offices that currently do not have it.
  • Work in select corridors and common areas to open walls and chases for new mechanical and electrical piping and conduits.
  • Upgrades in the sub-basement esports labs.

Due to the large project scope and tight timeline, there will be simultaneous work occurring in multiple parts of the building. Please expect:

  • Workers present in offices, labs, and hallways.
  • Construction noise and occasional odors.
  • All efforts will be made to contain dust and ensure daily cleanup.

We understand this may be disruptive and appreciate your patience and flexibility. Specific timelines for work in individual offices and areas will be shared with occupants as the schedule is finalized.

We are confident that the addition of air-conditioned office spaces will provide lasting comfort and make this summer’s temporary inconvenience well worthwhile.

Tutt Science

  • *UPDATE*

Duffy Crane will be on site tomorrow (June 20) to assist Trafton Roofing with loading materials to the northwest and southwest sections of the roof. The crane is expected to be on site from 7 am to 3 pm. The west entrance to Tutt Science Center will be closed during the duration of the overhead work. Please use the east entrance to access the building; the east exterior doors will be unlocked while the west entrance is closed. For your own safety, please do not cross the construction barricades while the crane is on site.

Beginning June 2, Trafton Roofing will commence a project to replace the four flat roof areas on the Tutt Science Center. The work is expected to last approximately three weeks, though weather delays could extend the timeline.

Please note the following important details regarding this project:

  • A crane will be used to load roofing materials onto the building. At times, the crane will block the circular drive between Tutt Science, Arthur, Mathias, and Barnes.
  • Access to the Barnes loading dock will be restricted to vehicles entering from Nevada Avenue.
  • The crane will also be positioned to the west of Tutt Science during part of the project.
  • For your safety, barricades and caution tape will surround the crane and overhead work zones. Do not enter these restricted areas.
  • Access to the Tutt Science Center will be maintained at all times, although pedestrians may be redirected to alternate entrances if work near a door creates unsafe conditions.

Please be aware of the following disturbances during the project:

  • Noise from power tools will be present throughout the duration of the work.
  • Odors from roofing materials may be noticeable inside the building, despite mitigation efforts through the HVAC system.
  • At certain stages, an industrial vacuum truck will be used to remove existing ballast rock, which may create significant noise and disruption.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this project. The outcome will be a durable new roof expected to serve the building reliably for the next 20 to 30 years.

Bemis Hall

Professional Restoration & Repair, LLC will begin work on June 2 to rebuild the north entrance stairs at Bemis Hall. This important restoration project is expected to be completed on or before June 30.

During construction, the north entrance to Bemis Hall will be closed. We kindly ask that anyone needing access to the first floor of Bemis Hall use the Taylor Theater entrance, located just east of the main entrance. Also, the circular drive in front of Bemis Hall may be blocked occasionally by equipment during the masonry repair work. Please use caution when driving in this area and turn around to exit the loop via the entrance if necessary.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation as we complete this necessary improvement to the building.

Parking remains permitted in the S3 Lot, but approximately six spaces will be impacted by the work. Please be aware that excavation equipment will be active in the area.

If you are an S3 permit holder, and you are unable to find parking or prefer to avoid the construction area, you are welcome to park in the parking garage from Monday, June 30 through Friday, July 4.

We appreciate your understanding and will provide updates as the project progresses.

Thank you for your patience.
